Cliffs « Thread Started on Feb 24, 2007, 11:42pm »
These cliffs stand beneath the Fort, and then slope down on the eastern side to the beaches at the bottom.
Rocky and treacherous, few have dared to climb these cliffs and lived to tell the tale. Of course, every so often some daredevil comes along with the idea that he or she can do it, but few ever actually succeed in making it to the top.
Far more people prefer to stalk along the grassy tops of the cliffs, taking in the breathtaking view across the vast ocean and breathing in deep lungful of fresh sea air. A strong wind always blows in from off the coast up here, and many come just to sit and think. It is a favourite spot for the philosophically-minded amongst the Scholars who reside at the Fort.
Zethra stood on the top of a cliff, holding onto the dark cloak that flapped around her legs. It was hooded and covered her ornate, gold-embroidered coat beneath. It also covered her ruby-hilted sword. The hood shadowed her face so that it was hard to see her scar. She stared into the ocean, looking at the rippling waters, reflecting things. The shadows in the water seemed to be telling a message older than time itself. She closed her eyes and breathed in the sea air and She was not sure if she was ready to venture into the city just yet. What if someone was to recognize her? It was doubtful, unless word had spread very fast, but it was possible. It had happened before. And it had not been too long since her last... Well since she last killed someone. But she was going to give all of that up, right? No, she doubted she ever would. But just now while she was here in this place she would. She knew she wouldn't be staying. She never had stayed in one place. She had been moving place to place as long as she could remember. There was no place she could call home. Once there was. But that was all in the past, all gone now. Which was another reason she didn't want to go into any city. She hated them. All of them. The elves and the humans. All they had done was cause her pain and suffering. Maybe that was what had driven her to become an assassin. But no matter what, that was what she was. That was what she had held onto her whole life. She couldn't put it all behind her, or she would have nothing left. She could try, but no. She would only be here a few weeks. A few weeks until she left this place and went back to her ways. Running. Killing. It was all she knew how to do. She angrily threw a knife into the ground. When she pulled it out, the ground was burnt. She would have to learn to control that. Maybe that's what she could do in her time here. She had to do something. What had she ever done when she wasn't running away or hiding out or killing someone? She hadn't done anything else, she realized. On occasion she practiced her weapons if she had spare time, but she never had really done anything else than that endless cycle that repeated itself over and over again. Yes, she decided, maybe she would get training. And she could leave then. Before things got out of hand. She could not interact too much with people that long, if it wasn't on business. They annoyed her. She cared not what others could do. All that mattered was her.
There was almost no one outside in the marketplace when Trianna went through it, with rain whipping through and soaking the wares of the few merchants hardy enough to be outside- and every one of them was packing as fast as he could so they could get back to the warmth of their homes. A few small children ran through the wet, shrieking with laughter, only to have their mother call from a window for them to get inside as lightning flashed over the scene. The whole city was shutting down for the storm that had come out of nowhere, with its inhabitants prepared to grimly sit out mother nature’s ravages.
Trianna couldn’t understand their thinking. Like everyone else, she had been caught in the weather, with next to no warning that the weather was going to turn hard in a moment, and had become soaked through as quickly as if she had jumped into a river. But rather than being scared or annoyed, she was exhilarated. Her wet clothes clung to her as she twirled in a circle like a child, laughing in the sheer adrenaline and delight of the moment. Leaving the shelter provided by the stores and buildings surrounding her, she walked to the cliffs and gazed out at the iron gray water shimmering hundreds of feet below her. The paths down were running with water like miniature streams, and waterfalls of run-off rainwater were pouring into the huge waves. Sitting down and looking over the ocean, she grinned at the sheer power on display.
Nyx was having the time of her life in the ocean riding the waves with little effort. To someone that lived on land it would look like she was drowning even thought that wasn't the case. She smiled slightly as she dove back underwater just in time to not hit the sharp rocks near the base of the cliffs. She sighed with relief, That was close, she thought.
She came up again and spotted a girl sitting on the cliffs in the middle of the storm. She was alittle surprised she didn't think anyone would be out in this storm.Maybe shes lost, she thought alittle concerned for the girl that she didn't even know. She swam towards one of the runways to the top of the cliffs and changed her fins for legs. She stood up alittle wobbly at first but soon regained balance, she jogged up towards the girl not thinking that maybe it was a trap or something. Some humans liked to capture mermaids like her but Nyx was so young that she didn't even think that this girl could be an enemy of hers. She came to the top after a few minutes and took a few deep breaths before walking over to Trianna."Hello are you lost? Or are you hurt?"she asked curiously. The girl looked completely soaked to the bone now.
