This exercise is simply to test your skills on the water. You do not take the canoe away from the shallows, you just practise rowing in preparation for your nest lesson, and also get a feel for the water.
Your teacher takes out a seperate canoe and rows alongside you. You may wish to use this time to voice any questions you have about the Navy.
